New Coordinator Selected for North Fork American River Watershed
Auburn, CA - The North Fork of the American River was selected by the California Department of Conservation and has received a grant to hire a watershed coordinator. Bill Templin has recently been selected for this position by a panel representing a cross-section of local, regional, and federal interests. Bill brings a strong background in California's water issues, specifically in water use, water quality and natural sciences. He is rapidly coming up to speed with the specific issues of the North and Middle Fork of the American River (both are included in the "North Fork American River Watershed") through meetings with stakeholder groups, individuals, and a thorough literature review. Bill looks forward to expanding the stakeholder group that is active in the American River Watershed Group and has specific tasks that he will be facilitating the completion of during the next 3 years, 2004 to 2007. In addition to 1) coordinating collaboration between government agencies, private land owners and other stakeholders, Bill has been tasked with 2) coordinating the education and outreach components of the "Stewardship Strategy," 3) implementing ecosystem and water quality improvement projects, including information and education of forest land owners on water quality issues, and 4) developing proactive management of water quality data collection, while implementing a monitoring program that will provide baseline data. If you have issues of concern about activities in this watershed, information you think he should have, or if you would just like to introduce yourself and let your opinions be known, you can contact Bill Templin by phone at (916) 601-9954 or by email at wtemplin@surewest.net. We all look forward to meeting you at this month's meeting of the American River Watershed Group at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Placer County Water Agency's American River Meeting Room, 1444 Ferguson Rd., Auburn, CA 95603, (530) 823-4860.
