The North and Middle Fork American River watershed is bordered by the crest of the Sierra Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin on the East; the Yuba and Bear River watersheds on the North; the South Fork American River watershed on the South; and Folsom Lake on the West.

The American River Watershed Group was founded in 1996 after a call for collaboration in resource management issues in the North and Middle Forks American River.
The ARWG meets the third Thursday of each month. Meetings are open to the public and all are welcome. The normal meeting location is:
